Abstract
The theoretical orientation for the data collection was based on the concept of amateurism and professionalism in politics. The concept was not productive in data analysis, however, and the more natural variables of the party and occupation were found to have the greatest utility. These, and two scales, are examined in an effort to understand candidate behavior. Study of candidates enables some conclusions to be made about party organization and the federal party system of Ontario.
