Abstract
To show how the novels of Roch Carrier provide an evolving portrayal of some of the problems facing Quebec in the twentieth century, and to show how the characters in the novels struggle to survive in a positive way. To show how the imagery, especially of light and darkness, conveys the author's emphasis on life over death.
