Abstract

A study of the ideas contained in Gilbert's imaginary voyage and of its importance both as a product of seventeenth century free-thinking and as one of the first manifestations of the philosophic spirit in France. The author's aim is to show that Gilbert was a seventeenth century free-thinker and a precursor of the philosophes of the eighteenth century.
