The purpose of this dissertation is to examine Voltaire's portrayal of Peter the Great in his three histories, Histoire de Charles XII, Anecdotes sur le czar Pierre le Grand and Histoire de l'Empire de Russie sous Pierre le Grand, In an attempt to assess the degree of historical accuracy In his presentation and to determine Voltaire's attitude towards Peter.
