Abstract
The work in this thesis aims to examine a number of labour market issues with attention paid to the assumptions involved in the empirical methods
employed here and in previous work. The relationship between unionization and employment growth is examined using a panel of Canadian workplaces, a number of high school work experience programs are evaluated using several treatment effects estimation methods and a panel survey of American youths, and unionization's impact on production ineffciency is examined using data from the Canadian manufacturing sector.
